Have you ever wonder what is it about this hash tag thing in social media posts. If you’re new to social media you might be thinking that #hashtags are confusing and pointless.

Think again because they are an essential social media tool when it comes to business and they can also be super fun!
So, what is a #hashtag? – Great question!
A #hashtag is essentially a label for content.
It’s the pound/hash symbol “#” with a word or series of words directly following it that then turn into a searchable link.
For example if you were to use #familyfirst or #gigfamily in a tweet on Twitter, your tweet would then be readily searchable to anybody who uses/searches #supersaver or #saveumore #gigfamily.
This gives you the power to establish a discussion and organize content around a specific topic.
For example if you want to encourage members in your team/business to attend an event you could use #yourbusinessnameevent in any of your social media posts.
You can then click on those hashtags and see if anybody else in your team has used them and start up a conversation, this also allows you to group all of your social media content together.
#hashtags are supported on a variety of major social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest etc.
The fact that #hashtags are so widely used across a variety of different social media platforms make them a powerful promoting/marketing tool.

You can create a #hashtag for example for an event you are planning and use it to link together all of your promotional/marketing material across different social media platforms.
The more people that become engaged will be likely to attend, engage with others to attend and stay connected after the event.
A few things to remember when using #hashtags:
1. Spaces will not be recognised in a #hashtag, if your #hashtag contains multiple words they #needtobegroupedtogether. You can capitalize letters to differentiate between words for example #YogaToday, uppercase letters will not alter your search results, #SaveUMoreToday will get the same results as #saveumoretoday.
2. Numbers can be used in #hashtags but punctuation marks will not be recognized so don’t included commas, exclamation points or question marks etc.
3. Creating a new, unique #hashtag is easy, simply put a pound/hash symbol before a series of words and if it yields no search results then you have invented a #hashtag!
4. Keep #hashtags simple, it’s important to remember that you should never use more than 3 #hashtags in any one post.
5. It makes your posts or ads to be connected to everyone of your team's circle to connect to the same message and make your posts to always be on top of their news feeds. Shout for your #hashtag with the team.
